Hi, I’m Louise

As a photographer and artist, I have a huge love of wildlife, animals and the natural world. I strive to capture the beauty and personality of each creature that I photograph or draw.

I find that the level of detail necessary to create my art, allows me to feel really connected to each pet, bird, mammal, insect or reptile that I draw. This is important to me and I hope this comes across in my drawings.

Having lived in Cornwall for over 20 years, I have recently moved to Derbyshire to fulfil the dream of living on a narrowboat along with my husband Roger and Chocolate Labrador Reg!

With so much wildlife literally outside my window, my inspiration is endless both for photography and drawing.

I would love you to join me on this new adventure!

My Story

I used to spend hours drawing as a child and loved nothing more than finding a pretty flower and drawing it.

After leaving school, I progressed to my local art college and eventually went on to university to study interior design, though sadly there was not a lot of drawing involved at this point.

I worked in design for many years and then in other directions and sadly my drawing took a backseat as other priorities took over my time.

I love nothing more than to take walks around the many beautiful areas that are full of wildlife, on my doorstep. Spending time looking at the nature around me inspired me to take up photography and I embraced it with a passion, learning techniques to create wildlife photographs. Birds are my favourite wildlife subject as they can be a great challenge to capture well.

Having taken a fair few wildlife photos, I thought about going back to my roots and drawing them. I re-discovered the joy of art and drawing once more and completely fell in love with colour pencils. After drawing a fair few birds and other wildlife,  I tried my hand at drawing my reptiles. These were tricky and required a lot of patience to figure out the many varied scales and textures. I finally moved onto a portrait of my Chocolate Labrador Reg.

I showed his portrait to a few people and was blown away by the positive response, being asked to create other pet portraits for friends and family.

Fast forward and here I am, spending time doing something that I love, reliving my childhood joy at drawing beautiful animals and creating detailed portraits of much loved pets to cherish.

I hope you enjoy my art
